The legends of saints are mainly seen as edifying guides to Christian behaviour. However, the content of the anonymous Vita of Saint Gudula is much richer. Sanctification of the ducal dynasty, confirmation of legal authority, new ideals and social prescriptions, new rules of life, a little gossip, etc.

The last paragraph recounts the transfer of Saint Gudula’s relics from Saint-Géri Chapel to the new Romanesque church on Molenberg and the creation of the Chapter of Saint Gudula in 1047.
