Our cathedral has a rich musical heritage. Erik Van Nevel, one of its foremost experts, has chosen to illustrate this by conducting the Currende ensemble in a performance of the Missa Sanctae Gudilae, composed in 1745 by Charles-Joseph van Helmont (1715-1790), who served as chapel master of the collegiate church from 1741 to 1777. Along with his sublime Leçons de Ténèbres (1737), the Missa Sanctae Gudilae ensures that this master, who was highly appreciated in his own time, now occupies a well-deserved place in the pantheon of Baroque composers.
