Grandes Conférences catholiques at Bozar: ‘The Cathedral in the Church and the World Today’ by Cardinal Archbishop JC Hollerich (Luxembourg)
Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich
A central figure in Pope Francis’ pontificate, Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, also a Jesuit, holds strategic positions within the Church. Rapporteur of the Synod on Synodality, a vast project initiated by Pope Francis, president of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE), and since 2023 a member of the ‘Council of Cardinals’ assisting the Holy Father in the government of the universal Church, Cardinal Hollerich previously spent twenty-three years as a Jesuit on mission in Japan. A staunch European, Cardinal Hollerich is known for speaking freely and openly within the Church.
Cardinal Hollerich’s lecture is part of the commemorations marking the 800th anniversary of the founding of the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels. On this occasion, Cardinal Hollerich agreed to reflect on the current significance of a cathedral.
The title of Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich’s lecture at our forum will be : « La cathédrale dans l’Eglise et le monde de ce temps ».
