The Roskilde Cathedral Boys’ Choir is one of Denmark’s finest choirs; it comprises more than 50 boys and young men aged between 10 and 35. Founded in 1987, it made its debut on Good Friday of that same year with a performance of Heinrich Schütz’s St Matthew Passion. The choir plays an important role in the musical life of Roskilde Cathedral, where the boys and young men rehearse several times a week and take part in various church services. Since its inception, the choir has devoted itself particularly to Gregorian chant, European Renaissance music and, above all, the Danish and Scandinavian choral tradition. Touring as a choir is essential for the choir’s ongoing musical and social development, as well as for representing Denmark’s musical heritage.
