Concert : 200 children’s voices – Romain Verbeeren
200 children’s voices for the cathedral’s 800th anniversary: 3 children’s choirs (Les Petits Chanteurs de Bruxelles, Mélopée and the Promozart inter-school choir) accompanied by soloists from the Brussels Orchestral Ensemble, conducted by Romain Verbeeren.
Les Petits Chanteurs de Bruxelles
Founded in 1950 by Father Emmanuel Caron, the Petits Chanteurs de Bruxelles choir has always been more than just a choir: it is a true school of life open to boys aged 7 and above, with no prior musical experience required. Its ambition is to pass on a love of polyphonic singing, listening, discipline… and friendship.
With more than 4,500 concerts in Belgium and abroad, the choir has established itself as a recognised musical ambassador: royal events, prestigious concerts at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, in Rome before the Pope, at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, at the Palais Royal, or more recently on the Grand-Place in Brussels during the grand departure of the Tour de France or at the Abbey of Villers-la-Ville during the La Nuit des Chœurs festival. Since 2008, the choir has been under the musical direction of Romain Verbeeren. He is currently supported by Judith Sépulchre, choir director and vocal coach, and Charly Delbecq, accompanist. Together, they work to bring to life a demanding, generous musical project that is deeply rooted in transmission. Albums, music videos, international tours, large-scale projects: the passion remains intact.
Mélopée, girls’ choir
Founded in 2011, Mélopée is a choir for girls aged 5 to 18 that has become a veritable school of choral singing and life, where singing together creates lasting bonds. Under the direction of Romain Verbeeren and accompanied on piano by Charly Delbecq, it explores a varied repertoire ranging from classical to world music and film scores. The choristers take on artistic challenges in rehearsals and on stage, with memorable tours to Portugal, Canada, Alsace and Brazil. Mélopée collaborates with other ensembles, has recorded several CDs and participates in major concerts while cultivating a strong group life. Advanced workshops, singing lessons and introductions to music theory complement the learning process, nurturing the artistic progress and personal development of the choir members.
The Promozart inter-school choir
Since 2020, Promozart has been developing a large-scale choral singing project in Brussels schools. Thanks to its teaching team, the non-profit organisation offers weekly workshops (extracurricular or school-based) that allow children to discover the joy of singing together and the richness of choral repertoires. Currently active in 22 schools in the region, it supports each pupil in learning about the voice and musical ensemble.
Every year, a large concert brings together all participants, showcasing their work and encouraging young people from different backgrounds to meet. Promozart aims to awaken an interest in music, create bonds and offer each child a genuine artistic and human experience.
