Theatre play Les 5 C : Cardinal, Cancer, Covid, Clown et Coulisses par le diacre-comédien Luc Aerens
The show is based on a text by Cardinal De Kesel published in March 2021 in Pastoralia. In it, our archbishop discusses the health crisis that began a year earlier, its impact on religious practice, and a more personal event: in March 2020, Joseph De Kesel learned from his doctor that he had cancer. He offers a poignant reflection that bears witness to his spiritual journey through these two events, which were chronologically and deeply linked, both in his body and in his mind. Deacon-actor Luc Aerens, deeply moved and touched by his bishop’s testimony, decided to stage this extraordinary text.
Among the reflections that particularly touched Luc Aerens, the actor spontaneously mentions those in which J. De Kesel evokes the words he used to say out of habit – for example, ‘God, come to my aid’ during his daily prayers – and which are ingrained in his flesh with the pain of cancer. ‘One of the Cardinal’s goals with this text is to be in union with other sick people in prayer. At the end of the text, he proposes a triangle, with prayer, solidarity and the Eucharist at the top, following Vatican II.’
De titel “Les 5 C” is afgeleid van de vijf sleutelwoorden van de voorstelling, waarvan er drie verband houden met de basistekst (Cardinal, Cancer en Covid) en twee met de enscenering (Clown en Coulisses).
